The committee tackled the issue of the Impact of Climate Change on Security particular the issues regarding Lake Chad Basin. A speech for the resolution was given to the house by the delegate of Brunei. A POI session followed the speech and there were points of information from several delegates such as Delegate of Mexico and Russia. Several delegates questioned the source of a large number of funds included in the resolution, to which the Delegate of Brunei answered is a joint fund from all the involved countries. Another delegate questioned how the diplomacy between the neighbouring countries will be handled as the co-submitters of the resolution will also be affected by this issue. More POI followed this line of questioning as to how the main submitter, the Delegate of Brunei, planned to conduct the ambitious plans proposed by the resolutions. Such concerns centered around that fact that there are difficulties regarding the security, the shortages of qualified peacekeepers and the looming threat of proxy wars. After the POI session, the Delegate of Chad gave a speech, urging the crowd to vote in favor of the resolution. The delegate stated that this resolution had a “melting pot of different factors” such as details about combating the threat of Boko Haram, training of troops, and supplying equipments. The POI session that followed the speech mainly involved whether it is wise to fight violence with violence; to this the Delegate of Chad replied that when attackers are using violence, it’s important to have forces there to counter it. The Delegate of Russia, who previously questioned if the main submitter will be open to aid from foreign countries, then gave a speech in support of the resolution. The delegate admitted that there were issues with the number and reliability of the peacekeepers but stated that the resolution gave sustainable solutions and offered aid from Russia’s own forces. When questioned about why Russia is willing to send in troops, the delegate answered that the country is deeply concerned by terrorist groups and that terrorist groups should be taken out immediately. The Delegate also added that an organization where Brunei, co-submitter countries, and Russia can collaborate will be established. Things, took an interesting turn when the Delegate of USA followed up with a speech that urges not to vote for the resolution. The delegate stated that the resolution is too vague, does not offer clear solutions, and could only be fixed with numerous amendments. More speeches that questioned the strength of the solutions that the resolution offered followed.
